Come and join us!

We are looking for a natural product scientist to come help us in identifying novel compounds with potential commercial value from our bacterial isolates.

We are a multi-disciplinary team that bring skills in many areas from across the world. We are funded by some of the biggest biotech angels in Europe including Peder Holk Nielsen (Former CEO of Novozymes), Jonathan Milner (Founder of Abcam), Claudio Costamagna (Former CEO of Goldman Sachs Europe) and Hugh Grant (last CEO of Monsanto).

In this role you will join our compound discovery team to boost the screening of our bacterial libraries and identification of novel bioactive compounds.

The team:

The compound discovery team oversees the identification of compounds from our growing library of bacterial isolates. The diverse team currently consists of five scientists who work closely with the bacterial generation team. Together we use a range of structural and biophysical approaches alongside in-house analytical techniques (such as mass spectrometry and HPLC methods) to characterise active compounds isolated from our extensive library of bacteria.

Position:

We are looking for a natural products scientist to help develop and run our pipeline for identification of natural novel bioactive compounds.

You should have:

  • An analytical background with a PhD in chemistry, life sciences or related field

  • Experience in natural product characterisation, HPLC and/or Mass Spectrometry

  • Data-driven mindset and able to work with large sets of data

  • Collaborative drive with an ability to learn and adapt

Ideal experience:

  • Background in microbiology, particularly bacterial culturing

  • Experience in metabolomics of bacterial samples

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Optimising and developing current platforms for active hit identification through to compound isolation

  • Establishing low throughput screening protocols for optimising hit validation, involving sample preparation and solvent extraction methods

  • Investigating specific bacterial species for bioactive production and optimising media for enhanced bioproduction.

Benefits include:

  • Competitive starting salary

  • New lab and office space in central London

  • 25 days’ holiday + bank holidays

  • Access to training courses for personal and professional development

  • Regular team socials on our 5th floor balcony and beyond

  • Diverse team of colleagues (check out our team page to meet us)

  • Opportunity to shape an innovative new company as we grow

We recognise that a diverse team helps Bactobio to be more innovative and produce better results which will ultimately ensure our success.
