Leading unicorn start-up co-founder joins Bactobio's board of directors

Following a successful funding round, we are delighted to announce the appointment of Victoria van Lennep as a new member of our board of directors. 

Victoria is a co-founder of Lendable, a leading Fintech industry player using a proprietary AI-powered platform that aims to make consumer finance better. Lendable reached Unicorn status in 2021 and is currently valued at £3.5Bn.

Dr Daniel Hansen, our CEO, said: 

“The company has made great progress over the year, and this next stage is an exciting time at Bactobio. Having Victoria as a board member with extensive knowledge and experience in navigating the evolution of a start-up from infancy to a multibillion-dollar company will provide us with unparalleled value as we step into the next stage of growth. Bridge round funding success

We are proud to announce we've successfully closed our latest oversubscribed funding round at £6Mn, led by Bridford Group with support from angel investors Peder Holk Neilsen and Hugh Grant.

OCTOBER 2022

Prestigious Innovation Award success

Bactobio is pleased to announce that we have secured our fifth highly competitive Innovate UK funding award. 

This will be our first antifungal discovery Smart Grant project of £342,000 titled "Novel antifungal discovery from mining unexplored microbes". This grant will be used to discover novel antifungal compounds targeting Aspergillus fumigatus, a priority WHO-recognised fungal pathogen.

JUNE 2022

Farming Innovation Pathway success

Today we announce our latest fungicide discovery grant project co-funded by Innovate UK and Defra.

In this project, we aim to discover novel biofungicides against Phytophthora infestans, a destructive plant pathogen best known for causing potato late blight that triggered the Irish potato famine.

Biomedical Catalyst
success

Today we kick off our latest antibiotic discovery grant project co-funded by Innovate UK, the UK's innovation agency. In this project, we aim to identify novel antibiotics against Pseudomonas aeruginosa: one of the WHO's three Priority 1 bacterial pathogens.

Bactobio hits the road!

This week a few brave employees faced London's autumnal chill for the first outing of Bactobio's new running club. We look forward to stopping by more classic London hotspots in the weeks to come!

OCTOBER 2021

Innovate UK grant kick-off!

We're delighted to announce that we're kicking off another grant co-funded by Innovate UK, the UK's innovation agency, this time for the Farming Innovation Pathways (FIP) competition in collaboration with Crop Health and Protection Limited (CHAP).

 

This 18-month project will see us screening our bacteria for new fungicides to tackle the wheat pathogen Z. tritici, which is responsible for crop losses of up to 50% annually.

upcoming change of name

Baccuico's in the news! We've officially announced the close of our latest oversubscribed funding round at £2.8Mn. We're also pleased to announce that we'll shortly be changing our name to Bactobio. Read the full report here.

SEPTEMBER 2021

Lab move and new automation equipment

Baccuico is moving! We've taken up a great new office and lab unit in Vox Studios and are in the process of moving in. The new site brings all of our teams into one space, meaning wet lab scientists, bioinformaticians and the business team can all collaborate freely. Our latest automation robot is already in place and we look forward to finishing the move over the next month.

Baccuico opens the London Lab!

We're excited to announce that we have moved into the Biscuit Factory in Bermondsey, London! We'll soon start converting the space into a lab, which boasts a large balcony with views of the London skyline. There's plenty of space for a few tissue hoods and everything else needed to set-up our brand new screening lab. Pop in if you're nearby!
