Dr Behzad Karkaria

Data Scientist

Behzad studied Biomedical Sciences at King’s College London and worked as a technology consultant for a year before moving to UCL to do a PhD in computational biology focusing on synthetic microbial communities. Behzad went on to do a postdoc at the University of Cambridge, inferring metabolic interactions between different human gut microbes.

As part of the Computational Science team, Behzad will develop methods and software to maximise the information we get from each experiment, allowing us to draw conclusions faster and more efficiently. Behzad will also work on developing predictive models to help culture ‘unculturable’ microbes.

In his free time, Behzad enjoys playing cricket, badminton and computer games. He enjoys reading horror and science fiction and loves a good hiking holiday!
