Dr Omkar Mohite
Senior Bioinformatician
Omkar holds a B.Tech and M.Tech from the Indian Institute of Technology, along with a PhD in Systems Biology from the Technical University of Denmark. Before Bactobio, Omkar was a Postdoctoral Researcher at The Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Biosustainability, the world’s first interdisciplinary research centre for sustainability. Here, he led the development of computational workflows that integrate genome mining and pan-genome analysis. His expertise extensively covers synthetic biology, bioinformatics, and natural product discovery.
At Bactobio, Omkar plays a pivotal role in the Bioinformatics team. He focuses on expanding the whole genome sequence pipeline, incorporating the analysis of secondary metabolite biosynthetic gene clusters. Additionally, he is instrumental in implementing a data-driven approach for prioritising and discovering new compounds, significantly contributing to advancing our research capabilities.
Omkar is an avid traveller outside the lab, having explored over 30 countries and nurturing a deep appreciation for diverse cultures. His passion for staying active is reflected in his hobbies, which include hiking and weightlifting, balancing his intellectual pursuits with physical wellness.
