Shamal Withanage
Scientist
Shamal holds an MRes in Synthetic Biology from UCL and is currently completing his PhD in Biomedical Sciences at KU Leuven. His PhD thesis is focused on the directed evolution of bioactive compounds.
At Bactobio, Shamal is an integral part of the Synthetic Biology team, primarily focusing on compound discovery. His contributions, including tasks such as molecular cloning and microbial engineering, are vital in identifying new antimicrobial compounds that Bactobio can further develop.
Outside of his professional pursuits, Shamal is an enthusiastic painter and illustrator. He enjoys writing poetry, frequenting the cinema, and watching cricket in his leisure time.
